Clayton is a partial-coverage city, and it is worth being precise about what that means before you plan anything.

What we bring here, and what we do not

We bring five trades to Clayton: HVAC, roofing, outdoor, plumbing and electrical. We do not take construction or carpentry work here.

That is a real limit rather than a soft preference. Remodeling, additions, basement finishing, garage conversions, structural repair, custom cabinetry, built-ins, trim and interior joinery are all unavailable in Clayton at any price, and we will decline the enquiry rather than take a deposit and manage you badly from an hour away.

The reason is honest and boring. Construction and carpentry are multi-week jobs with daily site presence, permit inspections at set stages, and a crew that cannot easily be pulled to another job and back. Running that reliably in Johnston County from a Morrisville yard would mean a crew spending more of its day driving than working, and the person who pays for that is you. The trades we do bring are single-visit or few-visit work, where the drive is a smaller share of the job.

If you want a deck or a remodel in Clayton, say so and we will tell you plainly that we are not your contractor for it.

The travel fee

Clayton carries a flat travel fee on every visit, added once per visit rather than per hour, and shown as a separate line on the quote and the invoice. It is not a surcharge on the work and it does not scale with the size of the job.

Johnston County, not Wake

Clayton is in Johnston County. Different permitting authority, different inspectors, different fee schedule and a different scheduling rhythm from Wake County. Anything requiring a permit here runs on Johnston County's timeline, and permit fees are passed through at cost, which means the figure differs from the equivalent job in Raleigh.

Response times

Emergency response here is 120 minutes rather than our standard 90, and same-day is a 5 hour target rather than 4. Those are honest numbers for the distance. Clayton is emergency-eligible for all eight covered services and we do dispatch here around the clock.

The housing stock

Flowers Plantation is the dominant feature, a very large master-planned development still being built out, alongside Riverwood, Glen Laurel, Portofino and Winston Pointe. Most of it is 2000s onward, so the work is lifecycle rather than restoration. Downtown Clayton is older and genuinely handsome, and it is frustrating that our carpentry limit falls hardest exactly where the carpentry would be most interesting. We would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
