Half the kitchen outlets dead. Found a failed backstab connection in a box behind the refrigerator in under twenty minutes, then checked every other device in the room for the same fault while he was there. Small job, done properly.

Second summer running they have kept a fifteen year old system going rather than pushing me into a replacement I cannot afford this year. They told me plainly what will fail next and roughly what it will cost when it does. That is the reason I keep calling them.

The fescue had been thinning for three summers. They soil tested first, adjusted the programme to the result rather than the calendar, and told me honestly that the shaded strip along the fence would never look like the rest of it. It is the best the lawn has looked.

Tankless unit installed with a new gas line and proper venting. They pulled the permit, scheduled the inspection and met the inspector themselves. The invoice showed the permit fee separately at cost, which is exactly what they said would happen.

Six weeks, and it finished on the day they said it would at the start. Priya ran the job she quoted, which meant I never had to explain anything twice. The permit timeline was in the first estimate, so the four week wait before demolition was expected rather than a shock.

White oak shelving either side of the fireplace, built to hold a lot of books and actually engineered to. No sag after six months of full load. They talked me out of a floating detail that would not have carried the weight.

Called at seven in the morning with no cooling and a house already at eighty six. The technician was here inside the window I was given, found a failed capacitor, had the part on the van and was done before lunch. The diagnostic came off the bill when I approved the repair, exactly as the website said it would.

Full tear off and replacement on a two storey house in four days. The estimate was itemised down to the valley metal and the final invoice matched it. They also found and replaced two sheets of soft decking and showed me the photographs before charging for it.

  • 5 out of 5

Level 2 charger in the garage with a clean conduit run back to the panel. They checked the panel capacity before quoting and told me I would not need an upgrade, which two other companies had insisted I would.

The installation itself was excellent and the crew left the utility room cleaner than they found it. My complaint is the wait: I was told two weeks for the equipment and it was closer to three, and I had to ring twice to find that out rather than being told. Everything since has been right, and the system is quiet.

    Our response

Thank you Harriet, and you are right about the delay. Your condenser was a special order size for the pad clearance you have and we knew that on day one, but we quoted a two week lead time on the equipment and it came in at three. We should have called you the day the supplier moved the date rather than waiting for you to ask. The install crew hit their schedule and I am glad the work itself was good. Lena Marchetti, General Manager.

Cedar deck with cable railing, and they spent the first morning on drainage and footings before a single board went down. Darnell explained why the joist tape mattered in this climate. Three weeks, on schedule, immaculate site every evening.

  • 5 out of 5

The spring tune-up found a cracked condensate line that would have flooded the closet by July. Written report with photographs, sent the same afternoon. Worth it for the report alone.

  • 5 out of 5

Cracked concrete slab replaced with a bluestone paver patio and a seat wall. They delayed the start by four days because the clay was saturated and would not compact, and told me why. No settling anywhere after a very wet spring.

The documentation they produced was genuinely excellent and my adjuster said so. Where this fell short was expectations. I understood that they would handle the claim, and what they actually do is supply photographs and a scope and then step back, which left me arguing with my insurer for six weeks on my own. The repair, once approved, was quick and well done. I would use them again knowing what I know now.

    Our response

Trevor, this is fair and I am sorry the claim was harder than it needed to be. We do not negotiate with insurers, and that is a deliberate limit rather than an oversight, but you are right that we did not make it clear enough at the first visit what that would mean for you in practice. We have since changed how we explain it: the estimator now walks through what we supply, what your adjuster decides, and where a public adjuster fits, before any documentation is produced. Your survey and scope were sent within two days, and the roof itself was signed off first time. Tomás Reyes, Roofing Lead.

Standby generator and transfer switch, installed and commissioned in a week. They were straight about what it would and would not run, which mattered more to me than the price. It has already carried us through two outages.

They opened the wall, found rot around the old shower pan that nobody could have known about, stopped, photographed it, priced the extra work and waited for my answer before continuing. That is the entire reason I trust the final bill.

Kitchen line backing up for the third time in a year. Instead of just clearing it again they put a camera down and showed me the root intrusion in the clay lateral, then quoted the actual fix. First plumber to explain why it kept coming back.

Water stain appeared on the landing ceiling after a week of rain. They traced it to a cracked pipe boot two feet up-slope from where the stain was, which is not where I would have looked. Repaired the same visit and the ceiling has stayed dry through everything since.

A limb came through the roof during an ice storm at night. They were clear on the phone that Chapel Hill is emergency only for them and that they would not be back for the permanent repair, which I appreciated knowing up front. They tarped and dried it in, and it held until my regular roofer could get here.

No hot water on a Saturday morning. Sean diagnosed a failed gas control valve, told me the part cost and the age of the tank, and let me decide between repairing it and replacing it without a sales pitch either way. Repaired, and still fine.

The finished room is exactly what we wanted and the crew were polite and punctual for eight weeks straight, which is not nothing. The dust was worse than we were led to expect and it got upstairs, into a wardrobe and into the return vent. Better sheeting at the start would have saved a lot of cleaning at the end.

    Our response

Otis, thank you, and the dust is a legitimate complaint. We used containment sheeting and a dust extractor on the framing and drywall phases but not during the concrete work at the start, and that is where most of it came from. We have added negative air containment to the standard scope on any basement job that begins with cutting concrete, and it is priced in rather than extra. Priya Raghunathan, Construction Lead.

Cabinets made in their own shop for a 1938 house where no wall is straight. Walt scribed every run to the plaster rather than caulking a gap and hoping. They look like they have always been there, which was the whole brief.

  • 5 out of 5

No heat on the coldest night of the winter with a newborn in the house. They came out after hours, told me the call-out fee before they dispatched rather than after, and had the ignitor replaced within the hour. Nobody tried to sell me a new furnace at eleven at night.

  • 5 out of 5

Sixty year old fuse panel replaced with a modern load centre, every circuit labelled and a printed schedule inside the door. Nathan walked me through what each breaker actually feeds before he left. Inspection passed first time.

  • 5 out of 5

A slab leak we had been chasing for months. They found it acoustically within two hours, opened one small area of flooring rather than three, and rerouted the line. The repair cost less than the two exploratory quotes I had from elsewhere.

  • 5 out of 5

Heat pump was running constantly in auxiliary heat and my bill showed it. They found a reversing valve fault, explained what that actually means in language I could follow, and had it sorted in a single visit.

  • 5 out of 5

Seamless gutters run on the day, hidden hangers, downspouts moved away from the foundation where the old ones were dumping water against the wall. The crew noticed that problem themselves and asked before changing the plan.

  • 5 out of 5

Winterisation done properly with a compressor, zone by zone, rather than just closing a valve and hoping. They flagged a cracked backflow assembly at the same visit and had it replaced before the first hard freeze.

  • 5 out of 5

A sunroom addition on a house with an awkward roofline. They engineered the tie-in properly instead of doing the cheap thing, pulled the permit, met the inspector and passed first time. Two years of rain since and not one leak.

  • 5 out of 5

Crown moulding through four rooms of a house with wavy ceilings. Every inside corner is coped, not mitred, and it shows. Charged by the hour and the hours were honest.

About these reviews

Where these come from

Every review on this page was left by a customer we invoiced. We do not filter them by rating, we do not remove one because it stings, and the average you see on this site is calculated from this file rather than typed in by hand.

Why the low ones are still here

Three of these are not five stars, and each of the three names something we got wrong: an equipment lead time we did not pass on, dust containment we should have specified from the start, and an insurance claim where we did not explain our own limits clearly enough at the first visit. All three are answered in public, by name, by the person responsible for fixing it.

A wall of five star reviews tells you nothing except that somebody curated the wall. What is useful is seeing what happens when a job goes sideways, because that is the part you cannot predict when you choose a contractor.
